Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) invites South African student to apply Bursary Programme 2023 academic year.
Bursary Application Closing Date: 31 January 2023

- Anthropology (focused on forensic / medical anthropology)
- Archaeology (focused on marine and underwater cultural heritage, and forensic)
- Archives and Records Management
- Conservation of the Built Environment (preventive conservation)
- Collections (Cultural & Natural) Management
- Digital heritage
- Fine Arts
- History
- Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS)
- Museum Studies or Management and Curatorship
- Palaeontology
Bursary Coverage:
- Maximum value: R110,000 per student
- Expenses covered:
- Full tuition fees
- Prescribed books
- Electronic devices (max. value R10,000; provide 3 receipts/invoices)
- Accommodation (max. value R50,000, where applicable)
- Meals (max. value R18,500, where applicable)
- Transport (max. value R10,000, where applicable)
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must:
- Be South African citizens
- Be 40 years old or younger
- Be currently in Matric (in 2023) or have completed Matric
- Study or intend to study in one of the listed heritage-related programmes
- Study at an accredited institution registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training
- Maintain a strong academic record
- Not be employed full-time in the private sector, government, or state agencies
- Not earn more than R350,000 per annum

- Matric latest results/certificate
- Most recent academic record (if currently studying)
- Proof of provisional acceptance/admission at the university
- For Postgraduate students: progress report from supervisor (if writing a dissertation or thesis)
